About ADSI:
History of the Advanced Driving Skills Institute
In 1976, Jack Weaver and others started a small Research and Development group, which was conveniently titled Safe Performance Associates (SPA). The initial objective of SPA was the solicitation of funded traffic safety projects.
From 1977 to 1983 SPA participated in several driver related projects funded by private and government agencies. Significant among the early projects was the NHTSA funded "Evaluation of the Safety Performance Driver Education Curriculum Demonstration Project". Subsequent R&D projects were carried out for Shell Oil, the Florida Insurance Commissioner, the Montana Highway Safety Office, the American Salvation Army and others.
In the early 80's SPA began developing and marketing driver testing and training video programs. Throughout the mid 80's the nature and scope of SPA business activities changed significantly, and this change brought about a new name for the business. In 1987, SPA became ADSI, with the exclusive goal of developing and implementing cost effective driver testing and training programs.
